How to prepare for a remote tax appointment

A productive tax appointment starts with a clear picture of your year. You can build that picture from home, whether you live near our Mississippi offices or across the country.

By McNeel CPA Published

Start with the work you need

Tell us whether you need an individual return, business return, prior-year filing, or help with an IRS matter. Include the tax years involved and the states where you lived, worked, or operated a business. Federal services are available nationwide; state-specific needs and availability are confirmed before the engagement.

Gather the records that apply to your year

The IRS document checklist linked below provides a broader starting point. Your engagement may require additional information. Keep a list of items still expected rather than treating the first packet as complete.

  • Your most recent filed return and any tax notices.
  • Income forms such as W-2s and 1099s, including retirement and investment statements where relevant.
  • Records supporting applicable deductions or credits.
  • Business income, expenses, and estimated tax-payment records, if applicable.
  • A list of major changes such as a move, marriage, new dependent, new business, or retirement.

Use the delivery method provided by our office

Ask for approved document-delivery instructions before sending sensitive records. Do not put Social Security numbers, bank details, login credentials, or tax documents in a public inquiry form or ordinary email. Clearly label the year for each set of records and tell us if a document is corrected or replaces an earlier version.

Make the appointment easy to use

Write down your main questions in advance and keep your record list nearby during the phone or video call. Tell us what is missing and any filing or notice deadline you are concerned about. Before the call ends, confirm who is responsible for each next step and what additional records are needed.

Our offices remain in Philadelphia and Louisville, Mississippi. Working remotely lets you maintain a direct relationship with the firm while discussing federal tax needs wherever you live.

Common questions

Do I have to travel to Mississippi?

No. Federal tax preparation and IRS matters can be discussed by phone or video, with document-delivery instructions provided by the office.

Can I start a conversation before I have every form?

Yes. Tell us what you have and what is still missing. The information needed to complete the work is confirmed for your engagement.
